$50,000 In Prizes Paid, and Ranking Cap Updated

Fantasy Sports Live has now paid out over $50,000 in cash prizes since our launch just a few months ago. $500,000 is just around the corner. Thanks for your support in us hitting this milestone.

The ranking cap was updated last night, and now fully reflects this seasons results. It is always difficult to nail down these numbers as it is a mix of last years results and a game or two this year early in the season. There are some pretty big changes this week, but you should see things settle down with smaller weekly changes going forward. Since the cost of some of the stars this year went up, we bumped up the typical ranking cap value to 950pts. Let us know if you think this is where it should be.

Live Scoring Issue

The live scoring is not coming through for today's football games. We are looking into this and will do what we can to get the scoring up.

Football Week 2 Contests Up, Shutout Bonus Removed

Football contests are up for week 2. In general these will go up around mid-day on Tuesdays for the following week. We removed the 5 point bonus for DEF shutouts. The scoring rules have been updated as such. We did not like the way this worked with the live scoring. Defensive scoring is already pretty confusing as we do things differently, and there are some issues with the feed that play around with the DEF scoring number while the game is running. We thought that adding an extra 5 pts at the beginning of the game for the shutout, was just too much so it is now gone. The last tweak we made for week 2 is lowering the cap amounts. The cap amounts seemed a bit high for week one. Tighter caps, make you dig a little deeper to find your starters and makes things a little tougher as a result. There are always the no cap contests for those who can't or don't want to make trade offs building their fantasy team. Let us know what you think of our football offering, as we fine tune it over the first few weeks.

Accurracy of the Football Live Scoring

We noticed a few things with our live feed on Sunday. First off, there are some small errors of a yard here and there that accumulate over the course of a game. This is resolved when the final box score is delivered, but while contests are running errors of .1 or .2 pts on an individual players score are somewhat common. This is not an issue for most fantasy scoring systems, but we like to count every yard here. In our FAQs it talks about how the live scoring is for informational purposes. It is highly accurate, but not exact. It will show you in general where you are at, but if your contest is down to a few tenths of a point, the final box scores with accurate yardage will determine the results.

There are also a few strange things with the Defensive scoring. When the game starts you get 17 pts (5pts for a shutout bonus, and 12pts to start). When the first FG or TD is scored against, you immediately lose the shutout bonus, and 0.5pt per opponent point scored. The defensive scoring seems to be accurate while the game runs if you keep that in mind, but at the end of the game there is something in the feed, that is causing us not to score Fumbles, Sacks and INTs temporarily. So you will see your DEF score usually go down at the end of the game, only to be corrected by the final box later on. We are seeing what we can do about this. Also the box scores and live scoring updates appear to be slower for Football than Baseball. Football contests will likely take 1 hour to close after the last game is completed while we wait for the final box from the feed..

Football Rounded Scores and Rounding Errors

We have a couple football live scoring issues. The contests are not displaying the decimal points in the contest window, and there is a small rounding error in some of the total scores. We are working to resolve this. The final contest results will be calculated correctly to the decimal before any contests are closed today. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Football Launches at FSL

Football officially launched Tuesday afternoon with the first contests registering for Week 1. Its been a long wait from when the idea for the website was conceived last football season to now, but here we are. We plan on fine tuning things as required over the first few weeks, so please give us your feedback on cap levels, contest mix, draft interface, or anything you think will help us improve our football offering. Also, if you see any individual player's cap value that seems wrong, let us know. The salary cap is based on the yearly salary divided by the number of games. The ranking cap is proportional to the number of fantasy points players put up per game. The individual player salary cap values do not change over time, though we may update some rookie or other salaries as contract details are revealed. The ranking cap values will change over time based on fantasy performance. For players with no pro football experience a minimum value is used. A minimum salary value is also used in some cases.
